Bolton is the largest urban centre in the Town of Caledon. From a mill town established in the 1800s, it now boasts many industries and attractive residential subdivisions. The historic downtown was recently designated a Heritage Conservation District.
The Downtown Bolton Business Improvement Area established over 30 years ago by provincial statute and a by law of the Town of Caledon. Its purpose is to improve and beautify downtown Bolton and to promote it as a vibrant business and shopping area.
The BIA is run by a Board elected from among its members as well as the Area and Regional Councillors who represent Bolton. The Board serves during the same term as Caledon Council. The Board meets monthly on a Wednesday afternoon at Che’s Place on Martha Street. Meetings are for the most part open to the public. Minutes and Agendas are posted on the website.
Funding for the activities of the BIA comes from a special levy on the taxes charged to commercial property owners and businesses in the downtown area.
The BIA arranges for floral display in summer and seasonal decorations throughout the year. The BIA also runs events including a Market in the summer months.
